Context (the brief)
Following the COVID-19 pandemic the United Nations Environment Programme, World Health Organisation, United Nations Development Programme, and other international actors came together to create Nature4Health, a new initiative aimed at preventing the next pandemic. OneStop was mandated to create Nature4Health’s flagship presentation film, distilling their work and approach into a 2min animated video, in collaboration with our animation friends 3traits and writer Coralie Peguet.
Creative process & concept
After getting to know the project leaders Katherine, Lisa, and Julian, as well as learning about the methodology and programme they were setting up, we started by the difficult (but entertaining) process of writing a script that would explain why we are vulnerable to pandemics in our modern age, and what N4H is doing to prevent the spread of new infectious diseases. To avoid losing audience engagement during the animation, the script had to be as concise as possible. We spent many meetings together with the N4H team and our script writer Coralie debating the meaning of words, what to include and what not to, all in a friendly atmosphere.
Once completed, Loïs joined the adventure and started working on art direction, i.e. the style of the illustrations as well as decisions on colours, textures, and so on. Once validated we once again worked all together on the storyboard, brainstorming on what visuals could best represent the script. This all came together at the end, hiring a voice actor and sound designer to complete the animated video once the storyboard had been completely animated. The film was then presented at COP15 for the grand launch of N4H.
It was an immense pleasure to work with Katherine, Lisa, and Julian. We had a lot of fun from start to end and were all proud with what we had achieved over our 3 months of collaboration.
