Context (the brief)
The Cinéma Odéon in Morges is one of the town's historic landmarks, open since 1940. Chahnaz, the cinema's director, contacted us as part of a communications campaign to encourage more Morgians to come and enjoy their local cinema.
Creative process & concept
We all know the experience of going to the cinema: an outing with family or friends∙es, the smell of popcorn, the sound of our footsteps absorbed by the carpet... It's a familiar yet unique moment that resonates with each∙e of us in our own way.
As media artists, this place resonates enormously with us. And what a pleasure it was to discover that we could collaborate with the famous Odéon cinema in Morges.
Unlike the big cinema chains like Pathé, Morgien∙nes have a much more intimate relationship with the Odéon. For cinema-goers in Morges and the surrounding area, the Odéon cinema is brimming with their childhood memories.
Interested in each person's subjective experience, we invited film buffs and regular cinema-goers to take part in a photoshoot: the portrait party; to share this common passion and discuss our respective memories.
The aim was then to capture these people individually in the unique setting of the Odéon cinema.
The result was a superb series of portraits, combining humanity and cinema, which we printed and accompanied with leaflets telling the story of the relationship between cinema-goers and the big screen, and their fondest memories of it.
These portraits were exhibited at Espace81, a local gallery in Morges. The exhibition was accompanied by a poster campaign across the town, inviting Morgian residents to discover the town and (re)connect emotionally with the Odéon cinema.
