Context (the brief)

We have been invited by A. Lange & Söhne, a luxury watch brand from Germany, to showcase the Concours of Elegance 2023 in the royal setting of Hampton Court Palace, just outside of London, where classic car enthusiasts gather to admire the mechanical ingenuity and craftsmanship of some of the rarest automobiles from around the globe, an event sponsored by our friends at ALS.

Creative process & concept

We have been working with A. Lange & Söhne for some years now, creating content between Geneva, Milan, and London. This relationship works so well because both of us share a passion for creating the best possible product. With our friends at ALS we have the space to delve into our artform and explore our creative expression in a way that we can rarely access with other projects. And so off we went to London in the rainy summer of 2023 to capture the Concours of Elegance, a vintage car show sponsored by ALS. It took us a while to get a feel for the event. There were people everywhere, hundreds of photographers and content creators running about in all directions trying to take the perfect photo of a car. We all got caught up in the action and took hundreds of (useless) photos in the first morning. We then sat down, breathed, and blocked out the chaos to focus on our creative expression. I personally took a zoom lens to be able to distance myself from the grandious action, and gradually began noticing the wonderful details of the show: The texture of wheels, the old gear sticks, the reflection of the palace in the cars... This is what drew me in. And I realized at that point why we get along so well with our friends at A. Lange & Söhne. We understand that the beauty lies in the details.
